WHAT IS TITULAR HEAD?

At some point each academic year (these days, oft the spring), Grinnellians come together to create and screen beautiful (and frequently depraved) short films in the most jaw-dropping, one-of-a-kind-(each year, that is), spectacle of entertainment. With awards ranging from Best Acting to Best Nude Film, there are delights and laughs for every kind of film enthusiast. The most coveted award, Most Grinnellian, is illusive and tantalizing--only the best of the best, the film with the loudest cheers...will win!

Titular Head is known also for its long and winding history through Grinnell's hallowed years (and halls). Those working on this website, and on the annual Alumni Tithead Reunion (which you should definitely check out if you are a Grinnell Alum who loves Tithead), have yet to even fully and definitely catalogue the history that exists! We have been told the beloved film festival was created originally in 1989 (though others have said '85! and they may be right!), as a student talent show alongside the annual Grinnell Relays! 2025, if we are counting the start year as 89', would become the 36th year of Titular Head (if 85', then 40!!)!

This site has been constructed in collaboration with the Virtual Titular Head Alumni Reunion, which happens around the same time as the on-campus Titular Head, and is specifically for Alumni seeking to catch-up, discuss Titular Head, and watch films stored in the Archives! To navigate this site, you can click various page names on the blue bar at the top of each page! If you have feedback for us, perhaps more clues towards the history of the event, please let us know via the contact information on the "Share your TitHead Memory". We would love to have it!
